6. Liora K & Response

LIORA K

Liora K believes that photography can tell an amazing story and this she believes is a unique quality.

Liora K has created some powerful images through writing on women's bodies. She has taken a very feminist point of view in her photography exposing the stereotypes of women. I find that her photographs are more of a statement and that they speak strongly against the stereotypes of women. This photo specifically caught my eye because of its power. It is a very thought provoking image which tackles the issue of women being objectified. I think this photo relates to my project in that one of Nora Helmer's lines in the play is: "I believe that before everything else I am a human being - just as much as you are… or at any rate I shall try to become one." I think when I first saw this photograph I was drawn to the writing on the woman's body before I realised she had her middle finger up. I think that her having her middle finger up is a big statement and in a way shows the authority she has. Also her hands on her hips show that she has attitude and won't accept being treated this way any longer. As a woman she may be seen as inhuman and weak but she wants to break out of that stereotype by showing she is fearless, strong and before everything else, she is a human being.

This photograph is interesting as it suggests that women are simply defined by their bodies.

This photograph is interesting as there is a clear contrast between the blacks and the whites and this also speaks about feminism and femininity.

I am going to respond to this photographer by doing a shoot where I will take photographs of writing on the skin and portray the power of women.
