5. Hugo Glendinning - An Image that Inspired Me

HUGO GLENDINNING

Hugo Glendinning is a performing arts photographer who has photographed many famous people for their headshots. He also goes into theatres and has permission to take photographs of the productions. As well as this he works in studios carefully positioning his models in a theatrical way and composes some very powerful photographs.

One of my favourites of his is this photograph as the photo is simple yet made to look increasingly complex. His editing to the photograph plays a trick on your mind. I think the simplicity of the photograph is so beautiful and powerful and this photograph really speaks. When I look at this photograph I feel as though their is a message to do with the pressure there is to be strong and that standing on your own two feet although it may be a simple task you never know what a person could be being weighed down by. I think that the colours and expressions of the models in this photograph really add to its power. When I first looked at this photograph I was drawn to the girl on the bottom who is holding all the other people up. I find this photograph inspiring in relation to my project as in A Doll's House Nora Helmer carries the weight of her family on her shoulders like a heavy burden and so I felt that this photograph spoke very loudly if you were to view the girl at the bottom as being Nora Helmer.
